Economic Data Release by Simon Medcalfe, PhD, Associate Professor of Finance and Economics

In January 2018, the Hull College of Business Leading Economic Index (LEI) for Augusta increased 0.4% from December 2017. The LEI has increased 1.0% from January 2017. The Labor Market Index remained unchanged from December but stands 1.6% higher than January 2017.

The January Metropolitan Area Employment and Unemployment news release by the Bureau of Labor Statistics contained annual revisions based on up dated information from sources such as employers’ tax reports. The net result for Augusta was a revision downwards of about 4,000 jobs (see chart).
