Student Spotlight: Mikayla Smith

One of the new faces in the Hull College’s Career & Academic Planning (CAP) Center is senior Mikayla Smith.

Smith is a military brat and has lived in Florida, Puerto Rico, California, and Maryland before arriving in Augusta in 2019.

She started her college career at Towson University near Baltimore. When the family moved to Augusta, she selected Augusta University as the location to finish her BBA because of the proximity to home.

Smith is on track to graduate with her BBA with a digital marketing concentration in December.

She initially was in the healthcare management concentration before switching. “I like the aspects of it, branding, social media. It’s more personal, [and] I get to connect with people more,” she said.

Healthcare management was her first choice because she has an aunt who is a doctor and a father who manages health staff. It was after an internship at a blood bank that she decided to change.

Smith has her eyes set on the sports entertainment industry. Her sister, Candace, once worked for the Miami Heat and is now a Senior Suites Manager for Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders. One of her post-graduation options is going to work for her sister.

Smith is active at Augusta University, involved in the Student Government Association as a senator and a member of Tau Sigma National Honor Society which is dedicated to transfer students.

In addition to working in the College’s CAP Center, she is also a building manager for the Jaguar Student Activities Center.

When not studying or working, Smith likes to paint, read, and care for her two dogs.
